If the air consists of refrigerant (due to leakage) then it is detected by the change in the colour of the flame. Using halide leak detectors leaks as small as 1.5 to 2 oz. ... Thus the leak detector consists of a sampling tube through which air around the refrigeration system is drawn by means of a small fan.
