The least count of a vernier calipers is 0.01 cm and its zero error is + 0.02 cm. While measuring the length of rod, the main scale reading is 4.8 cm and sixth division on vernier scale is in line with a marking on main scale. calculate the length of rod.

Hey there!

Given,

L.C = 0.01 cm

Zero error = + 0.02 cm

Main scale reading = 4.8 cm

number of vernier division coinciding with the main scale division is 6.

Length of rod = observed reading - zero error

=[ main scale reading + coinciding vernier division] - zero error

= 4.8 + 0.06 cm - (+0.02)

= 4.86 - 0.02 = 4.84 cm

Hope It Helps You!

Answer:

4.84 cm

Explanation:

Given that,

Least count = 0.01 cm

Zero error = +0.02 cm

Main Scale Reading(M.S.R) = 4.8 cm

Vernier Scale Divisions(V.S.D) = 6 (sixth division)

So, Vernier Scale Reading = 6 × Least Count

= 6 × 0.01 cm

= 0.06 cm

Length of the rod = M.S.R+V.S.D-zero error

= 4.8 + 0.06 - 0.02

= 4.86 - 0.02

= 4.84 cm
