The least count of vernier calipers is 0.01 cm and its zero error is +0.02 cm. While measuring the length of a rod the main scale reading is 4.8 cm and 6 th division on vernier scale is in line with a marking on the main scale. Calculate the length of the rod.

Answer:

Legth is 4.84 cm

Explanation:

Given:

Main Scale Reading, MSR = 4.8cm

zero error, ZE = + 0.02 cm

Least count, LC = 0.01cm

Since the 6th division on vernier scale coincides with the main scale.

Therefore, vernier Scale Reading, VSR = 6 × LC

= 6 × 0.01 cm

= 0.06 cm

Length of the rod, L = MSR + VSR – ZE

L = 4.8 cm + 0.06 cm – 0.02cm

L = 4.8 cm + 0.04 cm

L = 4.84 cm
