This is an adaptation to HIGH LIGHT CONDITIONS.
There is enough light and not all of it is blocked by the uppermost leaf layers and some filters through to lower leaves .

The possible reason for this is that to maximize the surface area and increase the amount of sunlight absorbed.  

Explanation:

The function of arrangement of leaves such that they do not overlap each other so that no leaf stands in the stand and sunlight falls in every leaf to maximize the surface area for absorption of sunlight which is used in photosynthesis to make their food.

Usually this is an adaption of the plant to its environment. It happens in plants which are in an area that receives less or no sunlight.
