Answer:

suppose you have a rectangular plate of length 40cm and breadth 20 cm , now you apllied force (stretch) the plate outward direction, what happen is that the length will increase and breadth will decrease.(imagine a situation).

so initial area of the rectangle(Ai) = (40×20) cm^2 =800cm^2

after stretching the plate- final length will be (L) = 25% of initial length=40+25%of 40= 50cm. ………………..(1)

now let breadth is decreasing by x%

so,final breadth will be( B) =(20-x%of 20)…….(2)

final area of the streched rectangle (Af)= (1) ×(2)= 50×(20-x%of 20)= 50×(20-x/5)……………..(3)

a/c the initial and final area should be same

hence, Ai=Af

》800=50×(20-x/5)

》800/50=20-x/5

》16=20-x/5

》x=20

Hence, when length is increased by 25 % ,the breadth should be deacreased at the same time by 20%
