  \bigstar \: \underline{ \underline{ \bf{Question}}}

The length and breadth of a rectangle are in the ratio 2 : 1 . If the length is 10 cm, then the

breadth is .

Answer

 \boxed{ \begin{array}{c}= \rm 5 \: cm \: is \: the \: required \:  \\  \rm  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \: measurement \: for \: breadth.. \end{array}}

Solution

Given that the length and breadth of a rectangle are in the ratio of 2 : 1.

✧ Key Note ___________________________

Here, note the common mistake done by students often that they assume these ratios to be actual measurements for length and breadth. Rather , this 2 : 1 ratio is just a common factor or a type of comparison between length and breadth i.e how length and breadth are related to each other.

Now ,

Let us assume the Length of rectangle be 2x while that of breadth be 1x or x , simply.

Also , it is given that

  • Actual Length of rectangle = 10 cm

Now , let's compare our assumptions with the actual detail provided in the question.

❥︎ In case of length,

  • 2x = 10
  • x = 10/2 = 5

Therefore ,

the Breadth of rectangle = x = 5 cm.

Given,

The length and breadth of a rectangle are in the ratio 2:1.

The length is 10cm

We have to find the value of breadth

Let, the length of a rectangle be 2x

Let, the breadth of a rectangle be x

According to the question,

The length of a rectangle is 10cm

So,

2x=10

x= \frac{10}{2}

x=5

So, the breadth of a rectangle is 5cm

Therefor, the value of breadth is 5cm.
