Question:

The length and Breadth of a rectangular piece of land are land in the ratio 5:3. If the total cost of fencing it at the rate of $48 per meter is $19,200, find its length and Breadth.

Solution:

Let the length and breadth of the rectangular land be 5 x meter and 3 x meter respectively.

Perimeter = \frac{Total cost of fencing}{Rate }

                 = \frac{19200}{48} = 400 meter.

Also perimeter = 2(l+b)

                         = 2(5x + 3x)

                         = 2× 8x = 16x meter.

According to question,

16 x meter = 400 meter

⇒ 16 x = 400

∴ x = 25.

So

  • Length = 5×25 = 125 meter.
  • Breadth = 3× 25 = 75 meter.

Thanks..

Let the common ratio be x metre.

Then, length = 5x metre.

Similarly, breadth = 3x metre.

So, perimeter = 2 (5x + 3x) = 16x metre.

Now, perimeter = 19200/48 = 400 metre.

16x = 400

=> x = 25 m.

So, length = 125 m.

In Same way, breadth = 75 m.
