Answer:

perimeter of rectangle = 2 x l x b

let the common multiple of length and breadth be X

so

40=2(3X +2X)

20=5X

X=4

therefore

length =3X =12m

breath =2X=8m

The breadth of the ground is 8 meters.

Explanation:

We are given that : The length of a football ground is 40 meters.  (1)

Also, the ratio of length and breadth of the ground is 3 : 2.

Let 3x be the length and 2x be the breadth of the football ground.

Since the football ground is rectangular in shape .

Perimeter of rectangle= 2( length+ breadth)

⇒Perimeter of football ground= 2 (3x+2x)=2(5x)=10x   (2)

From (1) and (2) , we have

10x=40\\\\ x= 4 [Divide both sides by 10]

Then, breadth of the ground =2 x =2 (4)= 8 meters

Hence, the breadth of the ground is 8 meters.
