Given:

✰ The length of a plot is 10 m more than it's breadth.

✰ The area of plot is 200 m²

To find:

✠ The length of a plot

✠ The breadth of a plot

Solution:

Let the breadth of plot be x.

Now, we know that the length of a plot is 10 m more than it's breadth which means 10 is added to x i.e , x + 10.

So, the breadth of rectangle = x + 10

Again,

Let the breadth of plot be x

Then, the breadth of rectangle be x + 10

✵ As we already know area of plot is 200 m², so by using formula of area of rectangle, we will find we will form a equation and then find length and breadth of a plot.

Area of rectangle = length × breadth

  • Area of rectangle = l × b

  • 200 = ( x + 10 ) × x

  • 200 = x² + 10x

  • x² + 10x - 200 = 0

  • x² + 20x - 10x - 200 = 0

  • x ( x + 20 ) - 10 ( x + 20 ) = 0

  • ( x + 20 ) ( x - 10 ) = 0

Take

❅ x + 20 = 0

❅ x = - 20

Now, take

❅ x - 10 = 0

❅ x = 10

Since, breadth cannot be negative. Therefore, the breadth which we have considered as 'x' is 10 m.

Now, we know that the length of a plot is 10 m more than it's breadth.

  • The length of a plot = ( x + 10 ) m

  • The length of a plot = ( 10 + 10 ) m

  • The length of a plot = 20 m

Therefore,

The length of a plot = 20 m

The breadth of a plot = 10 m
