let the breadth of rectangle be x cm

perimeter of rectangle=2(length+breadth)
50=2(16+x)

50=32+2x

2x=18

x=9

therefore breadth of rectangle=9cm

area of rectangle=length×breadth

=16×9

=144 cm^2
