The length of a rectangle is 2 cm less than thrice its width. The perimeter of the rectangle is 28 cm. Find the width of the rectangle.

let the width be =x

so the length would be =[3*x]-2

perimeter = 2[(3*x)-2 + x]=28cm

=>[using distributing property] 6x-4+2x = 28cm

=>8x-4=28cm

8x=28+4 = 32

x=32/8=4

width = x = 4cm

so ,length =[3*x]-2=  [3*4]-2

12-2=10 cm
