Given: The length of a rectangle is 2 cm more than twice its breadth and its area is 60 cm.

To find: the diagonal of the rectangle.

Solution:

  • Now according to the question, we have:

              breadth as b

              length as 2b + 2

  • The area is:

              b(2b + 2) = 60

              2b^2 + 2b = 60

              b^2 + b - 30 = 0

              (b-5)(b+6) = 0

              b = 5 and b = -6

  • -6 is discarded .

              length is 2(5) + 2 = 12 cm

  • Now for diagonal we have:

              diagonal = √5² + 12²

              diagonal = √25 + 144

              diagonal = √169

              diagonal = 13 cm

Answer:

             So the diagonal is 13 cm.
