Answer:

let the width ( breadth ) be 2x

and the length be 2x + 2cm

perimeter of rectangle = 2 ( l + b )

28cm = 2 ( 2x + 2cm + 2x )

28cm = 2 ( 4x + 2cm )

28cm = 8x + 4cm

28cm - 4cm = 8x

24cm = 8x

x = 3

length = 2x + 2 = 2 * 3 + 2

= 8cm

width = 2x = 2 * 3

= 6cm

hope it helps you

Question

The length of a rectangle is 2 cm more than twice its width. The perimeter of the rectangle is 28 cm. Find the width of the rectangle?

Solution

Given:-

  • The length of a rectangle is 2 cm more than twice its width
  • The perimeter of the rectangle is 28 cm

Find:-

  • The width of the rectangle

Explanation

Let,

  • width of rectangle = x

A/C to question,

( The length of a rectangle is 2 cm more than twice its width)

➠ length of rectangle = 2x+2

Perimeter formula

Perimeter of rectangle = 2*(length+width)

So,

➠ Perimeter of rectangle = 2*[(2x+2)+x]

➠ 28 = 2*(3x+2)

➠ 6x + 4 = 28

➠ 6x = 28-4

➠ 6x = 24

➠x = 24/6

➠x = 4

Thus:-

  • width of rectangle will be x = 4 unit
  • Length of rectangle will be (2x+2) = 2*4+2 = 8+2 = 10 unit.
