Given

  • Length of the rectangle is 20 cm more than the breadth.
  • Perimeter of the rectangle = 100 cm

To find

  • Dimensions of the rectangle

Solution

Let the breadth be x cm and length be (x + 20) cm.

Perimeter of the rectangle = 100 cm

• Perimeter of rectangle = 2(l + b)

⟶ 100 = 2(x + x + 20)

⟶ 100 = 2(2x + 20)

⟶ 100 = 4x + 40

⟶ 100 - 40 = 4x

⟶ 60 = 4x

⟶ 60/4 = x

⟶ 15 = x

The value of x = 15

  • Dimensions of the rectangle -
  • Length of the rectangle = (x + 20) = 15 + 20 = 35 cm
  • Breadth of the rectangle = x = 15 cm

______________________________________

Let's verify -

Perimeter of the rectangle = 100 cm

Length of the rectangle = 35 cm

Breadth of the rectangle = 15 cm

• Perimeter of rectangle = 2(l + b)

⟶ 2(35 + 15)

⟶ 2(50)

⟶ 100

Hence, verified.
