SOLUTION

GIVEN

  • The length of a rectangle is 2m less than 3 times its breadth.

  • The perimeter of the rectangle is 52 m

TO DETERMINE

The length and breadth.

EVALUATION

Let breadth of the rectangle = b meter

Since the length of a rectangle is 2m less than 3 times its breadth.

Length of the rectangle = ( 3b - 2 ) meter

Now perimeter of the rectangle is 52 m

So by the given condition

2 [ Length + Breadth ] = 52

⇒ Length + Breadth = 26

⇒ 3b - 2 + b = 26

⇒ 4b = 28

⇒ b = 7

The breadth of the rectangle = 7 meter

Length of the rectangle

= ( 3 × 7 - 2 ) meter

= 21 - 2 meter

= 19 meter

FINAL ANSWER

Length of the rectangle = 19 meter

Breadth of the rectangle = 7 meter
