length is three times its width

therefore X=3y____________(2) (given)

(where y is the width)

perimeter of rectangle is =2(X+y)

48 =2(3y+y)

48=2(4y)

48 = y

y = 6 m

now if y= 6, then x=3y

X=3(6)

X= 18 m

area of rectangle is = X×y

= (18)(6)

= 108 m^2
