Let the above figure is a rectangle.

Given:

length = 32 m

diagonal = 40 m.

breadth = ? .

To find the breadh of rectangle,use Pythagoras theorem.

As we know that the adjacent interior angles of a rectangle are of 90 degree.

So , in triangle ABD,

\large{h^{2}} = \large{b^{2}} + \large{p^{2}}

\large{40^{2}} = \large{32^{2}} + \large{p^{2}}

\large{p^{2}} = \large{40^{2}} - \large{32^{2}}

\large{p^{2}} = (40 + 32 ) (40 - 32 )

\large{p^{2}} = 72 × 8

\large{p^{2}} = 576

p = \large\mathrm{\sqrt{ 576 }}

p = 24 .

Here p becomes the breadth.

Now we have ,

length = 32 m

breadth = 24 m

So, area of rectangle = length × breadth .

area of rectangle = 32 × 24

area of rectangle = 768 metre square .
