let breadth be x cm

length = 5 + x cm

perimeter of a rectangle =2 ( l + b )

2 ( x + x + 5 ) = 40

2x + 5 = 40 / 2

2x + 5 = 20

2x = 15

x = 15 / 2 = 7.5 cm

x + 5 = 12. 5 cm

hope it helps you

Given:

• Perimeter = 40m

Supposition:

• Let breadth of the rectangle is X

• Then length will be = x + 5

Formula:

• Perimeter = 2(Length + Breadth)

Solution:

• Put values in formula

• 40 = 2{(x+5) + x}

• 40 = 2{x+5+x}

• 40 = 2{2x+5}

• 40/2 = 2x + 5

• 20 = 2x + 5

• 20 - 5 = 2x

• 15 = 2x

• 15/2 = x

• 7.5 = x

• Or

• x = 7.5

Breadth:

• As breadth is x. And x=7.5

• So breadth = 7.5m

Length:

• As length = x + 5

• By putting value of x

• length = 7.5 + 5

length = 12.5m
