Answer:

Let ,breadth be x

length=x+6,

perimeter=2(l+b)=84

l+b=42

x+x+6=42

2x=42-6

2×=36

×=36/2

×=18

length=24

breadth=18

area=24×18=432

The length and breadth of the rectangle are 22 cm and 18 cm respectively.

The area of the rectangle is 432 sq. cm

Explanation:

Let x be the breadth of the rectangle .

According to the give question , length = x+6

Then , Perimeter of rectangle = 2(length + breadth)

= 2(x+x+6)= 2(2x+6)

Since , the perimeter of rectangle is 84 cm.

⇒2(2x+6) =84

⇒(2x+6) =42  [Divide both sides by 2]

⇒2x =42-6=36  [Subtract 6 from both sides]

⇒ x= 18  [Divide both sides by 2]

Hence,  breadth = 18 cm and length = 18+6= 24 cm

Area of rectangle = length x breadth = 24 x 18 = 432 sq. cm

Hence, the area of the rectangle is 432 sq. cm.
