let breadth=x

length=x+8

perimeter=40m

p=2*(l+b)

2*(x+8+x)=40

2*(2x+8)=40

4x+16=40

4x=24

x=6

length=8+6=14m

breadth=6m

hope this will help you

Answer :

Length = 14 m and Breadth = 6 m

Step-by-step explanation :

Given : The length of a rectangular field is 8 m more than its breadth.

To Find : If the perimeter of the field is 40 m, what is its length and breadth?

Solution :

Let the breadth of rectangle be x.

Since we are given that length of a rectangular field is 8 m more than its breadth.

So, Length = 20 + x

Formula of perimeter of rectangle = 2(Length × Breadth).

Now, we are given that the perimeter of the field is 8 m.

So, 40 = 2(8 + x + x)

40 = 2(8 + 2x)

40 = 16 + 4x

40 - 16 = 4x

24 = 4x

\frac{24}{4} = x

6 = x

So, breadth of the rectangle is 6 m.

Length = 8 + x = 8 + 6 = 14 m

Hence, the length of the rectangle is 14 m.
