Let breadth of rectangle be x cm.

∴ Length = x + 3 cm.

Area = x(x + 3) cm²

        = x² + 3x cm²

New length = x+3+9 = x + 12 cm

New breadth = x-5 cm

New area = (x + 12)(x - 5) cm²

                = x² - 5x + 12x - 60

                = x² + 7x - 60

∵ Old and New area are equal,

⇒ x² + 3x = x² + 7x - 60

⇒ 3x = 7x - 60

⇒ -4x = -60

⇒ x = 15 cm

∴ Breadth of Rectangle = x = 15 cm.

∴ Length of Rectangle = x+3 = 18 cm.
