I am not sure what you mean by “a square of size 9”. Are the sides of the square 9 units or the area of the square is 9 sq units, because no units have mentioned along with the 9?

a. Assuming the sides of the square is 9 units: Here the sides of the square are 9 units each and so its perimeter will be 36 units.

Now the rectangle has its length twice its width. Or L=2W. So the perimeter of the rectangle is 36 units or 2(W+2W) = 36, or 3W =18 or W = 6 units. So the length of the rectangle is 12 units and its width 6 unit.

b. Assuming the area of the square is 9 sq units: Here the sides of the square are 3 units and so its perimeter will be 12 units.

Now the rectangle has its length twice its width. Or L=2W. So the perimeter of the rectangle is 12 units or 2(W+2W) = 12, or 3W = 6 or W = 2 units. So the length of the rectangle is 4 units and its width 2 unit.
