Given : the length of a rectangle is two feet less than three times the width. area is 65 ft²

To Find :  the dimensions of rectangle

Solution:

Width of Rectangle  = x  feet

length of a rectangle  =  3x - 2  feet

area = Length x width

=> (3x - 2) x  = 65

=> 3x²  - 2x = 65

=> 3x²  - 2x - 65 = 0

=> 3x²  - 15x +13x- 65 = 0

=>  3x(x - 5) + 13(x - 5) = 0

=> (x - 5)(3x + 13) = 0

=> x = 5     as x can not be negative

Width of Rectangle  = 5 feet

length of a rectangle  =  3(5) - 2 = 13 feet

Dimensions of rectangle  are 5 & 13 feet
