let the breadth be x

then length=x+20

perimeter=2(l+b)

280=2(x+x+20)

280=2(2x+20)

280=4x+40

4x=240

x=60

length= 60+20=80m

hope it helps you

Given

  • Lenght of rectangular field is 20 m more than it's breadth
  • Perimeter of the field is 280 m

To Find

  • The length

Solution

Let the breadth be 'x'.

Lenght = x + 20

Formula to find Perimeter of Rectangle → 2 × (Lenght + Breadth)

Perimeter of Rectangular Field → 280 m

Let's solve the below equation to find the length and breadth of the rectangular field.

2 (x + 20 + x) = 280

Step 1: Simplify the equation.

⇒ 2 (x + 20 + x) = 280

⇒ 2 (x + x + 20) = 280

⇒ 2 (2x + 20) = 280

⇒ 4x + 40 = 280

Step 2: Subtract 40 from both sides of the equation.

⇒ 4x + 40 - 40 = 280 - 40

⇒ 4x = 240

Step 3: Divide 4 from both sides of the equation.

⇒ 4x ÷ 4 = 240 ÷ 4

⇒ x = 60

∴ Breadth → x = 60 m

∴ Length → x + 20 = 60 + 20 = 80 m

∴ The length of the given rectangular field is 80 m.
