Given:

  • The length of a rectangular mural is 2 m greater than the width.
  • The area is 20 square meters.

To Find:

  • Find the dimensions of the mural.

Solution:

 \rightarrow  \sf Let \:  l  \: be  \: the \:  length \:  of  \: mural \\  \sf  \: and  \: b \:  be \:   \: the  \: breadth.

 \sf \: l  + 2  =  b \\ \sf area = lb = 20 \\  \sf \: by \: adding \: value \: of \: b \: in \: area \\ l(l + 2) = 20 \\  {l}^{2}  + 2l - 20 = 0 \\

 /sf \: Roots \: will \:be\: 1+ \sqrt{21} or -1- \sqrt{21}

therefore length will be 1+underoot 21
