the length of a rectangular room is 3 metres more than its width.if the length is increased by 3 metresand width is decreased by 2 metres then there is no change in area.gind the length and width of room​

Answer :

Let, the length be x metres

And the width be y metres.

Therefore,

Area = xy meter sq.

ATQ.

x = 3 + y ------------- 1

And

(x + 3) × (y - 2) = xy

xy - 2x + 3y - 6 = xy

-2x +3y -6 = xy - xy

-2x + 3y - 6 = 0

Using 1

-2( 3 + y ) + 3y - 6 =0

-6 -2y + 3y - 6 =0

y - 12 = 0

Therefore,

y = 12

i.e. width = 12 metres

Using y = 12 in 1

x = 3 + 12

x = 15

i.e. length = 15 metres
