The length of a rectangular room is 6m longer than its width. If each dimension is increased by 2m, the area of the floor of the room increases by 64 sq.m. Find the original dimensions of the room.

let width be x
then length = x+6

area=x(x+6)

now length and width are increased by 2
new width=x+2
new length=x+2+6=x+8
new area=(x+2)(x+8)

(x+2)(x+8)-x(x+6)=64
x∧2+8x+2x+16-x∧2-6x=64
4x+16=64
4x=64-16
4x=48
x=12
width=12m
length=12+6=18m
