The length of a room is 2 times its breadth and 3 times its
height. If the cost of carpeting the floor at Rs. 325 per
sq.m. is Rs. 23400, what will be the cost of plastering the
four walls at Rs. 28 per sq.m.? (Ans: Rs. 4032)

Step-by-step explanation:

Solution;

Let the length of room be x m.

Then, the length of breadth is x/2 m and height is x/3 m.

Here,Cost of carpeting floor (C)= Rs. 23400.

Rate of carpeting floor (R)= Rs. 325 per sq.m

Now, Area or carpet(A) = C/R

= 23400/325

=72 m^2

Again, Area of carpet(A) = l x b

or, 72 = x x x/2

or, 72 = (x^2)/2

or, 144 = x^2

or, 12^2 = x^2

or, x = 12 m

Length(l) = x m = 12 m

Breadth(b) = x/2 m = 12 m/2 = 6 m

Height(h) = x/3 m = 12 m/3 = 4 m

Again;

Area of four walls(A1) = 2(l x h + b x h)

= 2(12x4+6x4)

= 2(48+24)

= 2(72)

= 144 m^2

At last,

Rate of plastering four walls(R1) = Rs. 28 per sq.m.

Cost of plastering four walls(C1l = A1 x R1

= 144 x 28

= Rs. 4032
