Let centre be O and AB be the tangent.

Then angle OAB= 90.

By Pythagoras theorem;

OA2 = AB2 + BO2

⇒ 52 = 42 + BO2

⇒ BO2 = 25 - 16

⇒ BO2 = 9

⇒ BO = 3

∴ The radius of the circle is 3 cm.

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

Let centre be O and AB be the tangent.

Then angle OAB= 90.

By Pythagoras theorem;

OA^2 = AB^2 + OB^2

⇒ 5^2 = 4^2 + OB^2

⇒ OB^2 = 25 - 16

⇒ OB^2 = 9

⇒ OB = 3

∴ The radius of the circle is 3 cm.
