Given: Length of carpet  is 4 metre less than thrice the  width,  length of carpet  is increased by 7 metre and  width is decreased by the 2 metre  the perimeter is 90 metre.

To find: Find the  length and wide of the rectangle.

Solution:

  • As we have given that Length of carpet  is 4 metre less than thrice the  width, so let the width be w, so length will be 3w - 4.
  • Now they says that length of carpet  is increased by 7 metre so new length will be: 3w - 4 + 7

        and  width is decreased by the 2 metre so new width will be: w - 2.

  • As we have given the new perimeter as 90, we can solve by using perimeter formula: 2(length+width)

                90 = 2 ( 3w - 4 + 7 + w - 2 )

                90 = 2 (4w + 1)

                90 = 8w + 2

                8w = 88

                width = 11

                Length = 3w - 4 = 3(11) - 4

                Length = 29 m

Answer:

               So the length and breadth is 29 m and 11 m.
