let breadth of rectangle be X

and so length = 4+X

perimeter of rectangle is 2*(l+b) which is 40 cm

2*(X+4+X) = 40

2*(2X+4) =40

4x+8 =40

4X = 40–8

4X = 32

X =8

so breadth is 8 cm

and length = breadth+4 = 12 cm
