Given :

  • Length of diagonal of rectangle = 37cm
  • Length of shorter side of rectangle = 12cm

To find :

  • Length of longer side of rectangle
  • Perimeter of rectangle
  • Area of rectangle

Solution :

  • In Rectangle ABCD , In ΔABC
  • ∠ABC = 90°     (Right angled)
  • AC = 37cm       (Given)
  • CB = 12cm       (Given)
  • AB = ?
  • AB² = AC² - CB²    (Pythagoras Theorem)
  • AB² = 37² - 12²
  • AB² = 1369 - 144
  • AB² = 1225
  • AB = √1225
  • AB = 35

Length of the longer side = 35cm

  • Perimeter = 2(l+b)
  • l is length (longer side)
  • b is breadth (shorter side)
  • 2 × ( l + b)
  • 2 × ( 35 + 12 )
  • 2 × 47 = 94

Perimeter of the rectangle = 94cm

  • Area = (lb)
  • Area = 35 × 12
  • Area = 420

Area of the rectangle = 420cm²
