of the triangle is 29 cm, determine the length of the sides of the triangle.

A scalene triangle is a triangle that has three unequal sides.

The perimeter of a scalene triangle is the sum of the length of the 3 sides.

Define x:

Let the first side of the scalene triangle = x

1st side = x

The first side is 2 cm more than that of the third side:

3rd side = x - 2

The length of the second side is 5 cm less than twice that of the third side:

2nd side = 2(x - 2) - 5

Given that the perimeter is 29:

x + (x - 2) + 2(x - 2) -5 = 29

Solve x:

x + (x - 2) + 2(x - 2) -5 = 29

x + x - 2 + 2x - 4 - 5 = 29

4x - 11 = 29

4x = 40

x = 10

Find the lengths of the triangle:

1st side = x

1st side = 10 cm

2nd side = 2(x - 2) - 5

2nd side = 2(10 - 2) - 5

2nd side = 11 cm

3rd side = x - 2

3rd side = 10 - 2

3rd side = 8 cm

Answer: The sides are 10 cm, 11 cm and 8 cm
