let \: the \: length \: of \: rectangle  \: be \:  \\ 4x \: cm

let \: the \: breath \: of \: rectangle \: be \\  \: x \: cm

perimeter \: of \: rectangle \:   \\  =  2(l + b)

 = 2(4x + x)

 = 2(5x)

 = 10x \: cm

perimeter \: of \: rectangle \:  \\   = 84cm

→10x = 84

x =  \frac{84}{10}

x = 8.4cm

∴ \: the \: answer \: s \: 8.4 \: cm.

Solution!!

The perimeter of a rectangle is given. It is also told that the length of the rectangle is 4 more than its breadth. We have to find the sum of length and breadth of the rectangle.

Perimeter = 84 cm

Let the breadth be x.

Length = 4 + x

Perimeter = 2(Length + Breadth)

84 = 2(4 + x + x)

42 = 4 + 2x

42 - 4 = 2x

2x = 40

x = 40 ÷ 2

x = 20

Hence, the breadth is 20 cm.

Length = 4 + 20 cm

Length = 24 cm

Length + Breadth = 24 cm + 20 cm = 44 cm
