Answer: Area = 84 square m.

Step-by-step explanation

Perimeter = 2(l + b )

If l is x then b is x + 8

So perimeter = 2[x + ( x + 8 )] = 2( x + x + 8) = 2(2x + 8) = 4x + 16 ( distributive property - a(b+c) = a*b + a*c) ....

So - Perimeter = 4x + 16 or 40 = 4x + 16

So 4x = 40 - 16; 4x = 24 ; x = 24 / 4 ; x = 6

So — Length = 6 and breadth = 6 + 8 = 14

Now, Area = l * b

So Area = 6 * 14 = 84
