length of one side = 12 cm
length of other side = X(?)
Using the Pythagoras theorem:
i.e. in a right angled triangle: a²+b²=c²

we get,
12²+x²= 13²
144 + x²= 169
x²= 169-144(transposing the value of 12²)
x²= 25
x=√25 (because opposite of square is square
root)
x=5

therefore, the other side of the right angled triangle is equal to 5 cm.
