Question:- The length of the hypotenuse of an isosceles right angled triangle is 18 cm. Find its area.

Solution:-

We know

Hypotenuse²=base²+altitude²

Here

h²=18

then

18²=b²+a²

here given it's isosceles,then base and altitude is equal,as Hypotenuse can't be equal to them,as it's the longest side of a right angled triangle.

So,here because a=b,let them be x

18²=x²+x²

18²=2x²

x²=324/2=162

x=√162

√162 doesn't gives a perfect square, anyway,we can solve the area using it.

We know

Area of an Isosceles Triangle

=1/2×b×h

here the values are

 \frac{1}{2}  \times  \sqrt{162}  \times  \sqrt{162}  \\  \frac{1}{2}  \times 162 \\ =  81

therefore Area of the triangle= 81cm²

Hope it helps
