Now since it is a right angled triangle too, hypotenuse is the longest. This means that the base and the third side (not hypotenuse) are equal.

Hence using Pythagoras theorem we get,

(a^2)+(a^2)= (Hypotenuse^2)

Thus,2*(a^2)= (Hypotenuse^2).

Thus the hypotenuse of the right angled isosceles triangle is equal to 1.414*a
