Given data : The length of the rectangle exceeds its breadth by 8 m. If the perimeter of the rectangle is 56 m find its length and breadth.

Solution :

Here, Length = L and Breadth = B

According to given

→ L = B + 8 ......( 1 )

→ Perimeter of rectangle = 2 ( L + B )

→ 56 = 2 ( B + 8 + B )

→ 56 = 2 ( 8 + 2B )

→ 56 = 16 + 4B

→ 56 - 16 = 4B

→ 40 = 4B i.e.

B = 40/4

→ B = 10 cm

from eq. ( 1 )

→ L = B + 8

→ L = 10 + 8

→ L = 18 cm

Answer : Hence, length and breadth of rectangle is 18 cm and 10 cm respectively.
