Solution :-

Let the breadth of the rectangle be x cm
Length = (x + 8) cm

Given : Area of rectangle = 240 cm²

According to the question,

Area of rectangle = (Length × Breadth) sq. units
=> 240 = (x + 8) × x
=> 240 = x² + 8x
=> x² + 8x - 240 = 0
=> x² + 20x - 12x - 240 = 0
=> x(x + 20) - 12(x + 20) = 0
=> (x - 12) (x + 20) = 0
=> x = 12 or x = - 20

∴ x = 12 (Length is always taken positive)

Hence,
Breadth = x = 12 cm
Length = (x + 8) = (12 + 8) = 20 cm
