let width = x
length = x+3
are= 40 cm sq.
area = l×b
40= (x)×(x+3)
40 = x sq.+ 3x
length is 8 cm and breadth is 5cm

Hey friend,

Let the width be x cm and length will be (x+3) cm

Area of rectangle=length*breadth
40=x*(x+3)
40=x²+3x
x²+3x-40=0
x²+8x-5x-40=0
x(x+8)-5(x+8)=0
(x+8)(x-5)=0
x+8=0 and x-5=0
x=-8 and x=5

As width cannot be negative,x=5

length(x+3)=8cm
width(x)=5 cm

#hope it helps...
