AB is the tower & BC is the length of the shadow when the sun's altitude is 45°, the angle of elevation of the top of the tower from the top of the shadow is 45°.

Therefore,

In right ∆ABC,

 =  > tan45 \degree =  \frac{AB}{BC}  \\  \\  =  > 1 =  \frac{20}{BC} \\  \\   =  > BC = 20m

Thus,

The height of the shadow is 20m.
