Hi,

Given:

Ratio of lengths of the rod=4:9

Longer length=72cm

To Find:

The shorter length

Solution:

Take the length of the length of longer rod to be 9x which is given as 72cm

Therefore 9x=72

                   x=72/9

                   x=8

Now take the length of shorter rod to be 4x

Substitute the value of x

We get,

4x=4×8=32cm

Therefore length of shorter rod is 32 cm

hope this helps you.
