Ali was filled with tears of helplessness as according to the story, it was his last day on earth. All the five years he waited for his daughter's letter didn't come then too. Unable to do anything to get his letter even on his last day made his eyes fill with tears. But he still had faith that the letter may come to him even now at his last moment although he lost his patience. In fact, all the 5 years the love for his daughter fuelled his patience and seeing that he had very little time, he lost his patience but not his hope for recieving his letter. He was not receiving any letter from Miriam from over a period of 5 years and the old age exhausted his patience. Because he still had faith that he would receive a letter from his daughter Miriam may be after his death .....
