Gopal Hari Deshmukh (Lokhitwadi) was a great thinker, writer and social reformer of Maharashtra during the British rule in India. He wrote a series of laters under the pen name Lokhitwadi in a weekly newspaper Prabharkar. The letters came to be known as Shatapatre. In these letters he wrote about the social issues like child marriage, caste system, widow remarriage, dowry system and polygomy. He promoted women emancipation and education of women.
