Answer:The Ancient Library Of Alexandria was burned down twice. Once occurred during the time of Cleopatra around 30 BC, and then burned down by early Fundamentalist Christians, around 415 AD.

Both times, vast numbers of books, and any other contents, were lost.

It could be assumed that there could have been tens of thousands of letters, many which would be letters of state between the local empires. Some may have been business letters and maybe even some that were personal. As to exactly how many letters would have existed there is no way to know.

I am not sure if there is a Library at Alexandria today, but if one exists it would probably be as complete as other libraries for cities of its size. Letters would, for certain, be part of the library’s catalog.

It is not out of the realm of imagination that there have been libraries to rival that of The Library of Alexandria but most of our stories glorify that one above all others. Other entire libraries were also burned and usually this was to prevent the general population from learning enough to foment revolution. Intelligent and Educated people rarely allow tyranny for very long. The educated will usually take the stand and topple the most staunch regimes. If you educate yourself into history you will learn all this and see that it is not an unusual thing for knowledge to be eradicated
