Answer:

The life of the cherry tree was threatened on various occasions when it was left unattended.

For example,

In this story written by Ruskin Bond, the Cherry tree is left unattended a few times. Such as when the goat tried to eat away all its leaves, when the tree was quite small. Next, a woman was cutting away grass and she cut off the cherry tree as well.

However, when Rakesh was there, he saw a caterpillar feeding on the leaves of the tree and he picked up the caterpillar and placed it on dried leaves lying elsewhere. He protected the cherry tree.

So the life of the Cherry tree was threatened when it was left unattended. In other cases, weather conditions affected it too. For example, when heavy snow fell on it.

Explanation:

The life of the cherry tree is threatened. Just as any living thing faces challenges so does the cherry tree.

While it is young, the goats eat its leaves and prevent it from growing. On becoming a bigger tree, the grass cutter’s scythe proves to threaten it by cutting it down.

When it grows in the monsoon, blight withers its leaves.  Despite all this, the cherry tree braces itself and blooms beautifully. This goes on to show that despite all odds, one should overcome all obstacles and come out successful.
