They cannot be separated by distillation because distillation uses these property of liquids to boil at a certain temperature, if you have to liquid with the same boiling points then the vapour phase will be about 50% of each, thus not separating them. Because their molecules are different in comparision to each other so they cannot be separated from there mixture
