Good morning everyone present; I am here to speak briefly on the grand occasion of Dr. Kalam’s birthday, which is also celebrated as World Students’ Day. Well, the best tribute we can pay to this legend is by treading the way shown by this inspiring personage.

He belongs to the class of unforgettable personalities who have left an eternal blaze-trail after their passing away. Dr. Kalam can be termed as a gem of a great leader. His entire life has been an inspiration. Born in a humble family, he worked his way to great success. In order to support his family financially, he solved newspapers at a very tender age. In spite of being so famous and successful, he was exceedingly humble. He dedicated his life to his motherland. His contributions to make India a strong nation are beyond praise. As a scientist, he gave India the power of missiles. Lethal Agni, Prithvi, Akash, and Nag missiles were added to the national arsenal under his able guidance.

In this connection, I would like to cite the example of the seagull in the story His First Flight by Liam O’ Flaherty. The young seagull’s first flight was full of obstacles and challenges. Sitting on the ledge he was quite scared; he felt he would drown into the sea; his brother and sister had already made their first flight. Everyone was waiting for him to jump and fly and join them on the plateau. He kept sitting on the ledge feeling hungry. Inspired by his mother, he dared to jump and learnt to overcome his fear of flight.

We must jump like the young seagull by taking inspiration from Dr. Kalam and overcome our fears.
