The little match girl is a story about a 7-8 years old girl will send by her father to sell the matches but failed to sell any of it as it was the New year eve and everyone was celebrating the event at their homes. She is afraid to go home for the fear of being beaten by her father. It is seen that the girl is the victim of child abuse. Her father, instead of loving and caring for her, is sending his daughter to sell matches in such a bitter cold. She belongs to a poor family and even does not have slippers of her own but have to wear her mother's slippers which was eventually lost by her. She feels extremely cold and light a match to warm herself and sees delicious food and stove which reveals how hungry the child was. The match finish and the dish disappears. In har second version she sees a large Christmas tree which disappears with the match burnt. In her last vision, she sees her dead grandmother, the only person who loved her. She requested her to take her with her and she is taken to heaven along with her grandmother. At the end all her troubles were over as she was with God and her grandmother. The next day,the townsfolk, who had ignored her before, find the body of the girl frozen and feel bad for her.
